This project was a collaboration between McCarthy Nordburg and The Devenney Group. The main goal of Hacienda was to create a healing environment for the patients, that speaks to the Mesa community it has served for 15 years. Practically, the 21,000 square foot hospital had stringent licensing criteria to adhere too, while designing a space that evoked a sense of peace and whimsy. This hospital caters to youths diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder. The President had formed a task force to establish the criteria for different work environments for participants to transition from a protected environment to a real work environment. So the alternate patient areas including the lobby, corridors, nodes, patient rooms and wings, color the healthcare landscape. And while not immune to the industry’s belt-tightening, there’s a unique and fun playful theme.
